Today was an extra‑special day in our EYFS classroom at St Joseph’s Hartlepool, as we welcomed some very tiny — and very exciting — new visitors… our caterpillars!

The children were absolutely delighted to meet them. There were lots of wide eyes, big smiles, and curious questions as we gently introduced the caterpillars to their new home. Over the next few weeks, the children will care for them, observe their changes, and learn all about the incredible life cycle from caterpillar to butterfly.

This hands‑on experience is such a wonderful way for our youngest learners to explore nature, responsibility, and the magic of growth. We can’t wait to see the joy on their faces as the caterpillars grow, change, and eventually take flight.

Stay tuned — we’ll be sharing updates as our tiny friends begin their transformation!
