Year 4 pupils from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Hartlepool enjoyed an inspiring and educational visit to The English Martyrs Catholic Secondary School and Sixth Form this week, strengthening the excellent partnership between our two schools.

The session, led by EMS staff, introduced pupils to the fascinating world of detective work. Students learned about the skills, strategies and analytical thinking required to solve real investigative challenges. They explored techniques such as observation, pattern spotting and logical deduction, all essential tools for anyone working in investigative or problem solving roles.

Our pupils then had the opportunity to put these new skills into action. Working in small groups, they tackled a range of practical activities designed to test their reasoning and teamwork. The children showed impressive focus and enthusiasm as they pieced together clues and worked through each scenario.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was the chance to try on an authentic police hat, an experience that brought plenty of excitement and helped the children imagine what it might be like to work in law enforcement.

The visit provided an enriching learning opportunity and also helped deepen our connection with The English Martyrs Catholic School, where many of our pupils continue their educational journey. Experiences like this give our children valuable confidence in moving on to the next stage of their school life and help them feel part of the wider Catholic community in Hartlepool.

Well done to Year 4 for demonstrating such brilliant investigation skills. We look forward to future opportunities to work closely with The English Martyrs Catholic School and Sixth Form and Sixth Form as we continue to prepare our children for their next steps.
