At St. Joseph’s Hartlepool, we are committed to fostering understanding, respect, and appreciation for diverse cultures. This October, our pupils celebrated Black History Month through a specialist programme delivered by Transformers HPL, packed with learning and creativity.

Exploring African Culture and Heritage

Pupils discovered the richness of African culture, exploring storytelling traditions, history, and identity. They learned about influential Black inventors whose creativity and innovation shaped everyday life, inspiring pupils to think about how ideas can change the world.

African Drumming and Music

One of the highlights of the programme was an African drumming session using djembes. The sound of rhythm and layered beats filled the school as pupils experienced how music can express culture, connect communities, and share stories. This hands-on activity brought energy and pride to the celebration, making it a truly memorable experience.

Black History Month at St. Joseph’s was more than an event—it was a powerful cultural experience that encouraged pupils to reflect on diversity, creativity, and the importance of heritage.
